High Performance Design

The purpose of High Performance building design and construction is that the project(s) possess resource and operation efficiencies that balance environmental responsibility, occupant comfort and owners’ budgets.

These projects require a high degree of integrative design efforts by all the professional trades that are normally involved in the building design process.

What qualifies a building as a high performance structure?

The building must exceed the state’s energy code. The current code is ASHRAE standard 90.1.

The most common way to define a building as high performing is it’s ability to meet LEED Certification.

Aquarius Consulting Group performs detailed building energy analysis to explore and recommend design decisions that best compliment energy consumption, utilization and cost. The US Department of Energy approved sophisticated modeling program is useful for seeing the “big picture” early in the decision process. It is also well suited to fine tune advanced building systems designs and LEED or Energy Star certification requirements. Please refer to sample below.

A critical point that many engineers fail to observe and act upon is that after construction and a few years of operation, the system performance must be verified and tuned up to meet or exceed its design objective. This cannot be done unless the proper instrumentation and control required are specified and installed. Aquarius Consulting Group’s policy is to keep up to date with the ever evolving technological advances and selectively incorporate them into all of our advanced designs.
